What moves the price of a tub-to-shower conversion

Acrylic or tile

Acrylic panels are faster and cost less; tile costs more in labor and lasts longer.

Where the drain goes

Reusing the tub drain is the low end; a centered or linear drain is the middle; a curbless recess is the high end.

Glass

A fixed panel costs less than a hinged door; glass to the ceiling costs more again.

Accessibility

Blocking is included; a fold-down seat and grab bars are an add.

Slab or crawlspace

Any drain move on a slab means cutting concrete, which is why Eichler conversions price higher.

Finish level

Standard acrylic or porcelain at one end, large-format tile and a thermostatic valve at the other.

Ads that promise to “save 80%” are comparing refinishing with a full remodel. Both are real options for different problems. If you want to keep a tub, read refinish the tub or replace it.

Is a one-day liner cheaper?

A liner installed over the existing tub footprint can be cheaper and faster, but it covers the walls rather than replacing them, and you keep the tub’s shape. We build a real shower.

Is refinishing the tub a cheaper option?

Much cheaper, if you want to keep a tub. Refinishing does not turn it into a shower.

Can I see a price before a site visit?

The packages above give you a range. A site visit sets the exact number once we see the drain, valve and walls.

Does the price include glass?

The tile packages include a frameless panel or door; the acrylic package includes a glass door or a curtain rod.
